Removal of call logs and built in SMS support
In January 2019,
Google announced they will no longer allow Android apps to request call log or SMS permissions, unless Google deemed it necessary for the app's core functionality. After much back and forth with Google, AutoMate was unfortunately not granted an exception and was forced to remove these permissions.
Starting from AutoMate version 2.2.0:
- Call logs will no longer display in the phone screen
- Most recently called contact will no longer display on the home screen
- Native SMS support has been removed
To initiate a new SMS message, AutoMate can still select a contact and capture the message, however to send the message, it will open your default SMS app and pre-populate the message. Users will then have to manually send it. Replying to an incoming SMS message can still be done without leaving AutoMate, if notification listener permission is granted to AutoMate.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. The alternative would have been AutoMate being removed from the Google Play store entirely.
